Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has offered a heartfelt tribute to the late President Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as a towering figure in Nigeria’s history who carried the burden of national leadership with resolve and purpose.
In a personally signed message released on the day of Buhari’s burial in Daura, Katsina State, Atiku expressed deep sorrow at the passing of a fellow statesman, noting that it had “cast a long shadow over the land,” prompting collective reflection on life, legacy, and the transient nature of power.
“It is a privilege to be here in Daura, standing in unity with his family, community, and the nation as we lay him to rest,” Atiku wrote.
Despite years spent on opposing sides of the political divide, Atiku acknowledged the shared humanity that outlives rivalry. “Though we often stood on different shores of the political river, death reminds us of what truly matters. He led with conviction, bearing the weight of responsibility in service to a nation he deeply cherished,” he said.
He extended his condolences to the Buhari family, the people of Katsina State, and Nigerians everywhere, praying that God grants the late leader eternal peace and mercy.
“May the Almighty forgive his shortcomings, accept his return, and bless him with Aljannah Firdaus,” he added.
In closing, Atiku urged Nigerians—both leaders and citizens—to reflect on the meaning of service and legacy. “This moment should inspire all of us to remember that the true worth of a life lies not in its length, but in the depth of impact and the footprints we leave behind.”
He ended with a final farewell: “Rest in peace, President Buhari. May the soil of Daura embrace you gently.”
