Fadahunsi Allegedly Threatens Accord Party Members Ahead of Osun Election

Senator Francis Fadahunsi, representing Osun East Senatorial District, has allegedly threatened members of the Accord Party with violence ahead of Saturday’s election in Osun State.

In a video reportedly obtained by SaharaReporters, Fadahunsi is heard addressing supporters in Yoruba and warning them against allowing Accord Party members to operate in Ilesa ahead of the August 15 poll.

“If we see any Accord Party members, we’ll kill them,” the senator was quoted as saying in the video.

He also reportedly told his supporters that Accord Party members would not be allowed to vote, even if they possessed Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

Fadahunsi further issued warnings to traditional chiefs whom he accused of supporting the Accord Party, saying Ijesa land would not accommodate those who allowed themselves to be used politically.

The alleged remarks come amid heightened political tension in Osun State ahead of the governorship election, with the All Progressives Congress (APC), Accord Party and supporters of Governor Ademola Adeleke engaging in political campaigns and counter-accusations.

The development also follows previous controversies involving Fadahunsi and Accord Party members in the state.

In July, the Imole Campaign Council accused security operatives allegedly linked to Fadahunsi of arresting Popoola Alaba, the Accord Party candidate for Ijesa South Federal Constituency, alongside other party members. The council described the arrest as politically motivated.

The Osun State Police Command, however, said Alaba was arrested following a petition dated July 4 concerning allegations of illegal mining and other offences. The police also alleged that some individuals arrested alongside him attacked officers attempting to free him and damaged a police vehicle.

Fadahunsi’s media adviser, Sam Segun-Progress, rejected allegations linking the senator to the arrest, describing them as “unfortunate, reckless and completely devoid of credible evidence.”

The latest alleged comments have raised concerns about the potential for political violence and intimidation ahead of the election, particularly given the direct reference to supporters of another political party.

Concerns over the security situation have also attracted attention beyond the state. Musician David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido and a nephew of Governor Adeleke, recently appealed to United States President Donald Trump and the international community to closely monitor the Osun election.

Davido urged relevant authorities to protect voters and ensure that the election is conducted peacefully, amid concerns over possible violence and disruption of the democratic process.

With political activities intensifying ahead of Saturday’s poll, stakeholders have continued to call for restraint, peaceful participation and the protection of voters’ rights.
